Four romances unfold across history, yet each will become subverted.
Sreetha works at a hospital in Goa, India, in 1967. When she meets
the new doctor, a friendship blossoms which could become more,
yet the immovable obstacle of different religious backgrounds
stands in their way.
In 1973, Rebecca, a young teacher, moves to a small English town to
escape a traumatic past. She is forced to work alongside a former
lover who jilted her years before. Does she still have feelings for him,
despite their antipathy?
Jessica lives in the Australian city of Brisbane in 1996. The hedonistic
post-doctoral researcher re-evaluates her life when introduced to a
handsome mature aged student whose PhD she will supervise.
Can she find love despite his complex family circumstances?
And in 2044, Alistair, a senior software developer, harbours feelings
for Janine, while still grieving the loss of his partner two years prior.
He hides a dark secret which might drive Janine away, yet his secret
is linked to a daring rescue mission, in which she must become
involved if it is to succeed.
Each protagonist is plagued by strange dreams and progressively
confronted with incidents they cannot explain. Links between their
stories emerge, forcing increasingly extraordinary interpretations.
And before long, they will each question the very nature of reality.
The plot is engaging and rife with twists and turns, creating a suspenseful atmosphere that keeps the readers on their toes.
The characters are well-developed, with an appreciable amount of emotional heft and intellectual curiosity, placed in an immersive world well-drawn with visual imagery and piercing language.
Readers of immersive science fiction will appreciate the book.
Novikov Windows is a remarkable combination of hard science fiction, probing philosophy, ethical argument, and sheer adventure. If you're not already a fan of time travel, chances are you'll become one after you read this novel. If you are already a fan, this novel will go to the top of your list, and stay there as an accomplishment against which past and future time travel stories you may read will be judged.
With a mind-bending time-travel storyline that fans of this sci-fi theme will thoroughly enjoy, exquisite character development, page-turning suspense, and brilliant plot twists, I breezed through all 542 pages and loved every breathtaking moment. When you're sad that you've reached the end of a book, even one with a closure arc as fulfilling as this one, you know that the time you've taken to immerse yourself in the storyline has been a truly wise investment. As a bonus, the text was expertly proofread, and for the first time in many years, I did not find myself having to read a line over and over again just to try to figure out what was meant to be written. I cannot wait for the author's next novel.
Cosmain is a genius! He may have just written the best book I have ever read! Whilst this is at heart a science fiction novel about time travel - as it unravels itself - it has a bit of everything. Hard science fiction, philosophy, suspense, unpredictable plot twists, mind bending paradoxes, ethical dilemmas, relationships, romance, erotica, history - this book has everything. And its all beautifully written - exceptionally good use of language, clever use of metaphors, rich characters are featured throughout. It’s clear that scientific accuracy is important to Cosmain, and it is apparent that he has extensively researched it. However he also makes sure everything is explained in simple language, so that it is accessible to the layperson.
This book will have you hooked from beginning to end, and leave you wanting more!
